Center for Race and Gender

The Center for Race and Gender (CRG) is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of California Berkeley that creates knowledge about intersections of race, gender, and social justice.

CRG engages in the following activities:

  • Conducts research with faculty teams through research initiatives, such as the People’s Conflict, Gender and People’s Rights Initiative, the Anti-Asian Violence: Origins and Trajectories Initiative, the Native/Immigrant/Refugee - Crossings Research Initiative, the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Project, and the Arts & Humanities Initiative.
  • Advances faculty research by providing a platform for public dissemination of scholarship through forums and symposia.
  • Builds relationships between local, national, and international scholars by organizing events designed for scholarly exchange.
  • Hosts visiting scholars and showcases their research.
  • Sustains on-going research projects through hosting faculty and graduate-student-led working groups.
  • Supports student research by awarding grants for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Bridges research, culture, and community by supporting engaged community-based research projects and artistic works open to the public.
  • Provides a multimedia platform for research development, including a weekly e-newsletter and an interactive website featuring audio and video recordings of events.
