Research Computing and Data Management
Research IT provides research data and computing technologies, consulting, and community for UC Berkeley faculty. Highlights are included below, and a comprehensive list of services is available on the Research IT site.
- Research Data Management (RDM)
The UC Berkeley Research Data Management (RDM) Program is a campus-wide program to help faculty, staff, and students manage research data throughout the research process.
REDCap is a powerful data collection platform used by a global community of research teams.
- Analytics Environments on Demand (AEoD)
Analytics Environments on Demand is a virtual machine service for researchers who need to run analytic software packages (ArcGIS, Python, R Studio, Stata, SPSS, etc.) on a platform that is scaled up from a standard laptop or workstation.
- Savio Computing Cluster
The Savio computing cluster is available for use by campus researchers and their collaborators. Savio is a Linux cluster with high-speed, low-latency networking and a high-speed parallel file system for high performance computing (HPC).
- Secure Research Data & Computing
RIT consultants provide front line support for researchers working with sensitive data.
- Cloud Computing Support
The Berkeley Research Computing (BRC) Cloud Computing Support program offers consulting assistance, documentation, and tools to help faculty and other campus researchers obtain access to and effectively use cloud computing resources.
Research Data Portal
The research data portal points researchers, research staff, and support personnel to the campus offices and resources that can help them with their data needs.
D-Lab provides assistance with data-intensive research in the social sciences and humanities.
The Berkeley Institute for Data Science facilitates collaboration across a diverse and active data science community of domain experts from the life, social, and physical sciences, as well as methodological experts from computer science, statistics, and applied mathematics.
