Researchers at UC Berkeley are collecting and testing the wastewater of millions of Bay Area residents, with the hopes of being able to spot a possible coronavirus infection cluster before the virus spreads. "We hope that there is not an increase in infections and a third wave, but we're hopeful now that we have this wastewater monitoring tool available, that we will be ready if there is a third wave," said Kara Nelson, a professor in civil and environmental engineering who leads the research group.
