Research Bio

Sylvia Guendelman is Professor Emeritus of Community Health Services at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health. Dr. Guendelman is the Founder and Advisory Committee Chair of the Wallace Center for MCAH. Her current research focuses on assessing pregnant women and mother’s engagement with digital health technologies and analyzing Google search queries to understand population health concerns. She has published widely on immigrant health, health disparities and the health of working women.

Google search data reveal Americans’ concerns about abortion

Residents of states with limited access to contraceptives and high rates of unplanned pregnancies are more likely to turn to the internet for information about abortion. These are the findings of a new study of Google search data across all 50 states by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley.
