Research Bio
Yasmin Vobis is an architect and educator whose research and practice explore building design and material experimentation. She is co-founder of Ultramoderne, an award-winning architecture practice recognized for innovative approaches to civic and residential projects. Vobis’ work integrates architectural design, material research, affordability and environmental sustainability, with projects ranging from housing prototypes, public buildings, to speculative work. Her latest publication, Heterogeneous Constructions (Birkhauser 2024, co-authored with Aaron Forrest and Brett Schneider) examines material heterogeneity in construction as a cultural practice.
She is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at UC Berkeley. Her design work has been published widely, and she has received awards from the American Institute of Architects, the Architectural League of New York, and the American Academy in Rome. At Berkeley, she teaches studios and seminars on building design and construction, mentoring students in architectural innovation and practice.
