Research Bio
Scott Straus conducts research on political violence and human rights, in particular genocide, mass killing, and civil war. He specializes in the study of sub-Saharan Africa and has written about Rwanda, Sudan, Côte d'Ivoire, and Mali, among other countries. He is the author or editor of nine books, for which he has won multiple awards, including the Grawemeyer Award for Improving World Order. He was elected the Mahatma Gandhi Fellow of the American Academic of Political and Social Science in 2023. He currently serves as Chair of the Travers Department of Political Science.
