Peter Menell

Research Bio

Peter S. Menell is a legal scholar specializing in intellectual property, technology, and environmental law. He is best known for co?founding the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology and for influential work on copyright law and fair use. His scholarship addresses the role of IP law in fostering innovation and balancing rights in the digital age.

Menell is the Koret Professor of Law at UC Berkeley. He has authored numerous casebooks, articles, and amicus briefs that have shaped national debates on intellectual property/technology law and policy. His expertise spans intellectual property law (patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret) and technology policy.
