Research Expertise and Interest

digital humanities, intellectual history, Sumerian, cuneiform

Research Description

My research work concentrates on ancient Mesopotamian school texts (lexical texts) that taught scribal students how to read and write cuneiform (3,200 BCE - 0). These texts are published electronically in the Digital Corpus of Cuneiform Lexical Texts (http://oracc.org/dcclt). I am on the steering committee of the Open Richly Annotated Cuneiform Corpus (http://oracc.org); I am co-director of the Berkeley Prosopography Services (http://berkeleyprosopography.org/) and I serve on the Berkeley Digital Humanities Council (http://digitalhumanities.berkeley.edu/). In addition, I am interested in Sumerian and Akkadian literature and in the religions of the period.
