Research Bio

Ming Gu is a professor in the Department of Mathematics.  His recent research interests include fast algorithms in numerical linear algebra, data analysis, optimization and machine learning, including deep learning.  He has received numerous awards, including the best paper award at the international conference on high performance computing, 2017.  He received his PhD (1993) degree in Computer Science from Yale University. He joined the Berkeley faculty in July 2000.
