Research Bio
Claudio Hail is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from ETH Zurich in 2020, where he developed pioneering techniques for nanoprinting single fluorescent molecules and creating optical materials for structural coloring. From 2020 to 2024 he was a postdoctoral fellow at Caltech in the Department of Applied Physics and Materials Science where his research focused on resonant dielectric optical nanostructures and optomechanics, with applications in advanced optical materials and devices. Dr. Hail has been honored with numerous awards, including the Fulbright Fellowship, the ETH Zurich Silver Medal, and a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship. His current research interests include Micro/Nano-manufacturing, Metamaterials, Nanophotonics, Optomechanics, Additive Manufacturing.
