Functional Genomics Laboratory

The FGL’s mission is to conduct state-of-the-art research in functional genomics, with a focus on high-throughput sequencing experiments, and to make these technologies available to researchers at UC Berkeley and across California. Complementing the high-throughput sequencing capabilities of the Vincent J. Coates Genomic Sequencing Laboratory, the FGL specializes in the preparation and design of sequencing libraries and assays. From single cell genomics to metagenomics, FGL scientists are actively involved in the development of new techniques for genome and transcriptome sequencing, genotyping, and other massively parallel genetic assays. Research support services include consultation from the unit’s Directors and highly trained staff, automated preparation of sequencing libraries, nucleic acid sample analysis, and enrichment or other *omics assays.
