A handful of labs in the Bay Area, including ones at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley are working to gain a better understanding of how the coronavirus behaves by doing basic research with the live virus. The safety protocol is intimidating, but the research could prove incredibly valuable as the fight against the virus continues.
