Research Bio
Ezra Rubenstein is a philosopher whose research centers on metaphysics and the philosophy of science. He is currently working on projects concerning probability, explanation, causation, identity, fundamentality, physicalism, and logical atomism. He is especially interested in questions about what the universe is fundamentally like. For example, is everything fundamentally physical, or does reality contain non-physical ingredients? Are physical laws and probabilities fundamental, or can they be accounted for in other terms? Does logic reflect the fundamental structure of reality, or is it just the way we represent reality in thought and language?
He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at UC Berkeley, where he teaches courses in philosophy of science, philosophy of physics, and metaphysics.
