Research Bio

Duncan Callaway is Chair and Professor of Energy and Resources at Berkeley, where he holds the James and Katherine Lau Distinguished Chair in Sustainability. He also holds and affiliate appointment in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and is a Faculty Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.  He received his PhD from Cornell University and subsequently worked in the energy industry, first at Davis Energy Group and later at PowerLight Corporation. He was a member of the research faculty of the Center for Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan before joining UC Berkeley.  Dr. Callaway’s teaching covers energy systems and data science methods for energy and environmental decision making.  His research group focuses on quantifying the engineering, economic, and social implications of emerging energy technologies. Some specific application areas include decarbonization via grid integration of renewables and electrification, and energy infrastructure climate adaptation to increasing wildfire risk.
