Jill Duerr Berrick

Research Bio

Jill Berrick is a social welfare scholar whose research focuses on child welfare systems, foster care, and family support policies. She is best known for comparative studies of foster care in the U.S. and abroad, and for her books such as *The Impossible Imperative* and *Tender Years*, which examine the dilemmas and reforms in protecting vulnerable children. Her research highlights the voices of children and families while evaluating policies that impact their well-being.

Berrick is a Distinguished Professor of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley. She has received international recognition for her work on child protection and foster care systems. Her expertise spans child welfare policy, foster care, and social work.
