My research work concentrates on ancient Mesopotamian school texts (lexical texts) that taught scribal students how to read and write cuneiform (3,200 BCE - 0). These texts are published electronically in the Digital Corpus of Cuneiform Lexical Texts ( I am on the steering committee of the Open Richly Annotated Cuneiform Corpus (; I am co-director of the Berkeley Prosopography Services ( and I serve on the Berkeley Digital Humanities Council ( In addition, I am interested in Sumerian and Akkadian literature and in the religions of the period.
