Professor Broughton received her B.A. from UC Davis and her Ph.D. from Princeton University. She came to Berkeley after teaching for three years at Harvard. She works mainly on the history of modern philosophy and also has interests in contemporary problems of personal identity and of skepticism. She completed Descartes's Method of Doubt (Princeton University Press) in 2001 and is currently working on Hume.
