Professor Kaes teaches courses in modern literature, literary and cultural theory, and cinema. His research concentrates on interdisciplinary and comparative aspects of Weimar culture and contemporary literature and film; literary theory and theory of cultural studies; film history and film theory. Professor Kaes is currently working on a cultural history of cinema in the Weimar Republic, tentatively entitled: The Wounded Nation: German Cinema after the Great War, forthcoming with Princeton University Press.
