Bakar Fellows Program
About
The Bakar Fellows Program supports innovative research by early career faculty at UC Berkeley with a special focus on projects that hold commercial promise. The first cohort of Bakar Fellows was announced in June 2012 (click here to learn more). The program is currently accepting applications for the 2013/14 cohort. To apply, please click here.
The Bakar Fellows Program will enhance the efforts of UC Berkeley’s world-class faculty to translate important scientific discoveries into practical solutions in the fields of Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and in multidisciplinary work in these areas.
Faculty members selected as Bakar Fellows each receive discretionary research support for a maximum of five years. In addition, the Fellows will become part of and contribute to an ecosystem that brings together faculty, post-docs, students, staff and alumni to form a strong network that assists researchers in introducing their discoveries to the market.
This new pilot program will initially support two cohorts of early career faculty, one beginning in 2012, and one beginning in 2013. Each cohort will consist of several faculty working in areas with a high likelihood of contributing to California’s economy.
